Contest Rules

  1. All entrants must be a member of Dance.com (Joining is easy and free!)
  2. Entrants must submit their 15-second video to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” to their Dance.com profile.
  3. All entrants must use the hashtag #WhereDancersBelong and #JanuaryDanceOff.
  4. Contest dates are 01/13/2016 – 01/31/2016.
  5. Winner announced 02/02/2016 on Dance.com.
  6. Winner chosen randomly by Dance.com

ELIGIBILITY: The contest is open only to individuals, eighteen (18) years or older at time of entry, who are legal residents of the United States. Employees of Dance.com, their immediate families (defined as parents, children, siblings, spouse and grandparents), and those domiciled with any of the foregoing are not eligible. Website pages and advertisements relating to the contest are intended for viewing only within the eligible contest territory, and entrants must be present in the eligible contest territory at the time of entry.

TIMING: The contest entry period begins at 12:01 AM 01/13/2016 and ends at 11:59PM 01/31/2016. Dance.com’s computer system is the official timekeeping device for the Sweepstakes.

TO ENTER: All information provided by entrant must be complete, true and correct. Submissions to the contest must be received by 01/31/2016 in order to be eligible; entries received after the deadline will be deemed ineligible to win. All submitted entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be acknowledged; Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, inaccurate, incomplete, or misdirected entries. Entry is limited to one entry per person. Entries will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the Dance.com account used to enter. By entering, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules.

WINNER SELECTION: On or about 02/02/2016, the winner will be selected. Winners will be notified by email or through social channels prior to or by 02/02/2016. Prize will be awarded within sixty (60) days after winner verification. No prize substitution or transfer is permitted, except that Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value (including cash, at Sponsor’s sole discretion) for any reason. Sponsor is required by law to report prize values to taxing authorities; all taxes and any other incidental expenses on prizes are the sole responsibility of each winner.

GENERAL RULES & LIMITATIONS: By participating in the contest, each entrant fully and unconditionally agrees to be bound by and accepts these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor (including, without limitation, decisions regarding eligibility of entries, the selection of entrants and the winner, and the awarding of any prize), which are final and binding in all respects. Entry and acceptance of a prize constitute permission to use the winner’s name, prize won, hometown and likeness for print publication, online posting, and any other promotional purposes without further compensation, except where prohibited by law. By participating in the contest, you agree to release Sponsor and its parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, employees, directors, officers, and agents from any and all liability, claims or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, possession, use, or misuse of any prize. Sponsor is not responsible for technical, hardware or software failures, or other errors or problems which may occur in connection with the contest, whether computer, network, technical, mechanical, typographical, printing, human or otherwise, including, without limitation, errors or problems which may occur in connection with the administration of the contest, the processing of entries, the announcement of the prizes, in any contest-related materials, or that may limit prize fulfillment or a participant’s ability to enter the contest. Sponsor reserves the right to amend these Official Rules. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to terminate, modify or suspend the contest if, in Sponsor’s opinion, there is any suspected or actual evidence of electronic or non-electronic tampering with any portion of the contest or if viruses, bugs, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical difficulties or failures or any other factor beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the contest. In such event, Sponsor reserves the right (but does not have the obligation) in its sole discretion to award prizes at random from among eligible, non-suspect entries received up to the time of suspected impairment. Sponsor may permanently disqualify from the contest any person it believes has tampered with the entry process or intentionally violated these official rules.

PRIVACY: Sponsor collects personal information from entrants when they enter the Sweepstakes. In accordance with applicable law and with Sponsor’s Privacy Policy, the information you provide may be sent to affiliates and marketing partners of the Sponsor; you may be contacted by the Sponsor and/or promotional partners with future promotional offers.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION: Except where prohibited by law, by entering you agree that: (i) all issues and questions concerning the interpretation, validity, and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of participants and Sponsor and its agents shall be governed by and construed exclusively in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its rules on conflicts of law; (ii) any action at law or in equity arising out of or relating to this contest, or awarding of any prize), shall be filed only in the state or federal courts located in the State of New York, and entrant hereby consents and submits to the personal jurisdiction of such courts for the purposes of litigating any such action;(iii) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this contest, or awarding of the prizes, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; (iv) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with participating in this contest but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (iv) you hereby waive all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased.

How to use Dance.com

How do I edit my profile?

  • Most of the features of your profile can be edited from your profile page.
  • To change your profile photo or your cover photo, click the edit button above your cover photo. Next, select Profile Images. From there you can upload both a new profile and cover photo.
  • Toggle to update your General Information, Contact Info Professional Profile or Account Settings.

How do I upload videos, images, and other content?

  • It's easy to share content on Dance.com from your personalized dashboard. You can also post from your own profile page.
  • From your dashboard, click in the box at the top of the page that says "Share Your Passion for Dance." The box will expand.
  • You can enter text in the box. You can also tag dance styles, groups, or other Dance.com users in your post with the "@" symbol. Tag trends with the "#" symbol.
  • You can upload a photo by clicking on the camera icon in the top right-hand corner of the box.
  • You can embed a video from YouTube or Vimeo by clicking on the video icon on the top right, next to the camera icon.

How do I follow my favorite styles?

  • When you create your profile, you'll have the chance to follow all the styles you're interested in. Choose them at Step 2: "Your Dance Interests".
  • You can add more styles by simply clicking on "Connect" at the top of your dashboard. Scroll down until you reach the section headed "Styles to Love". When you find a dance style you love, click "Follow"!

How do I tag my favorite styles in my posts?

Just use the "@" symbol — for example, "@HipHop", "@Ballroom". You can also use the "@" symbol to tag groups and other Dance.com users.

How do I follow my favorite dancers?

Go to the "Connect" section at the very top of your dashboard. There are many ways to find your favorite dancers:

  • From the "Connect" page, you'll see a selection of popular dancers you can follow. For more, click on the button that says "See All Dancers".
  • That will take you to a page where you can search for dancers you know, or dancers near you. Use the search box that says "Search By Location and Name".
  • Follow dancers personally recommended for you in the "Who to Follow" box on the right of the page.
  • Dance.com will suggest other dancers you might want to follow based on your interests. You can toggle between Most Popular and New Dancers. You can also filter dancers by style using the drop-down menu. Just scroll down and select the dancers that inspire you!

When you see someone you want to follow, just click the blue "Follow" button under their name.

How to use Learn section?

The learn section is where verified dance instructors post educational video content. The latest choreography, tips, and professional advice is housed in one special place. Think you have valuable content to share with your #Dancefam? Apply to be an Instructor.

Instructors — During the registration process, registrants are given the option of becoming instructors. Instructors have a special dance figurine badge, and are able to post educational content in the Learn section once verified. If you are interested in becoming an instructor, but did not select the flag during registration, you can apply for the privilege via the Contact Us form.

All applications are examined on an individual basis by the Dance.com site admin for authenticity. To streamline the registration process, start posting educational content and tag it with @Learn. Once approved, your content will show up in the Learn section.

Dance.com reserves the right to revoke any users instructor privileges if the content does not meet Dance.com’s criteria.

Points on Dance.com

What are Dance.com points?

Dance.com points are awarded based on your interaction with the site. By earning points, you’ll earn badges. Badges show you’re an active participant on the site, and help you find people who are just as active and engaged as you!

What are the badges?

There are four types of badges:

  1. Neo Neo — new joiners with less than 25 points
  2. Artists Artists — 26-200 points
  3. Elite Elite — 201-1000 points
  4. Star Star — more than 1,000 points

There are two additional badges based on user roles on the site:

  1. Parent Parent — If you’ve identified yourself as a Dance Parent, you’ll get a Dance Parent badge and won’t earn points for your site activity.
  2. Instructors Instructors — People who have identified themselves as dance instructors and were approved by the site administrator. Only approved instructors can post educational (@learn) content in the LEARN section of dance.com

How do I earn points?

Almost every kind of activity on Dance.com earns you points:

  • Creating an account
  • Posting to Dance.com
  • Sharing posts with friends
  • Comment or liking another user's post
  • Joining a Group
  • Checking back in on the site often
  • Inviting friends who register an account

You also earn points whenever someone else likes, shares, or comments on your posts, or when an administrator features your post.
